The Health and Disability Commission are reviewing the Health and Disability Commissioners Act 1994 and the Health and Disability Services of Consumers Rights Code and have released a consultation document setting out a range of issues. The review aims to ensure the law remains effective in protecting and promoting the rights of everyone using health and disability services. This Government Bill, which seeks to enable consumers and businesses to effectively protect themselves against risk, while minimising costs and impacts on insurers’ willingness to provide insurance in New Zealand, was introduced and referred to the Finance and Expenditure Select Committee last week. This Government Bill, which seeks to improve transparency for individuals about the collection of their personal information and creates a new notification obligation on an agency when it collects personal information indirectly, was referred to the Justice Select Committee last week.
